The Willow Oak Montessori Board of Directors is pleased to announce that it  has signed a three-year lease with the Bold Building in Governors Village in northeast Chatham County to house its new public charter elementary school opening in August 2013. Previously used by Woods Charter School, the location provides adequate indoor and outdoor space for the first several years of the school’s growth.  “We focused a significant amount of our initial effort on the acquisition of a facility, as we felt that this would have a major positive impact on our student and faculty outreach activities,” stated Head of School Pete Rubinas.

The location, which is only sixteen miles from the Pittsboro circle, is conveniently located for parents commuting to either Chapel Hill or Research Triangle Park. The Board is continuing negotiations to acquire a 15-acre tract of land closer to Pittsboro for the development of a permanent campus that will house both the charter school and the existing preschool-kindergarten Children's House program. The school anticipates finalizing an Option to Purchase contract with the owner in the near future. According to Board President Luanne Bannan, “The contract will grant us the exclusive right to purchase the land at desirable terms to initiate construction of our own facility within three to five years. We are very encouraged by all of our progress!”
